Why I Stopped Singing Hillsong

I thought this was an insightful post, and definitely worth sharing. Any time I see the words “Global” and “unity” that many times in a church’s “about” section, red flags fly and alarm bells sound.

“Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’ He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.” -Jesus Christ, Matthew 10:34‭-‬39 NKJV

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that Hillsong is a global phenomenon. As I type this, the band has more than 5.3 million Facebook friends, 982K followers on Twitter and its YouTube channel has been eyed by close to 50 million viewers. According to the Gospel Music Association: Hillsong was awarded five GMA Dove Awards in 2014, […]

Why I Stopped Singing Hillsong

  1. Nice post. First time visitor.
Truth is- it hurts being decieved. It hurts realizing how naive and gullible we are. And realizing how much we don’t know. Amen to you sharing what you have discovered, even if it hurts to do do.
The main scripture you shared in this post I would like to comment on: We read this scripture and we fail to realize what Jesus meant.
“Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household”
It isn’t that Jesus Himself is setting a man against his own father, or sister against sister. No, never! It’s that each person within the family dynamic will choose Jesus or themselves. Like it or not. In every family- it’s a mini world that exists in the BIG WORLD. And they function and exist the same. In ever family like it or not, you have those that will choose TRUTH, or ‘whats best for me and mine’.
The is THE ETERNAL DIVIDING LINE THROUGH EVERY FAMILY AND THE WORLD. Heaven or Hell. Each one is in one pile or the other.
JESUS- THE LIGHT- JUST BRINGS CRYSTAL CLEAR CLARITY TO HELP US SEE WHO IS WHO. FRIEND OR ENEMY. LOVER OF TRUTH OR OF THEMSELVES.
Which is why they hated Him. They didn’t want to be revealed and seen for what they are: frauds. liars, cheats, murderers, yes our own family members.
WE DO THE TEARING, KILLING, COMING AGAINST…NOT CHRIST. AMEN.

    • Lots of good points. I think that for the Christian “what’s best for me and mine” IS the truth of Jesus Christ. Hurt though it may, conviction is the only way to true healing balm of forgiveness of sin and salvation, which makes it absolutely necessary. We’ve gotten to a point in society where people flee pain or discomfort rather than face or investigate it, and yes, that means relationships are broken because of it. I believe Jesus was in fact talking about the dividing line between good and evil, truth and lie, genuine and counterfeit. And a church that promotes global unity of ALL peoples and faiths regardless of what they confess about Jesus Christ is a hard line that separates the lie of Satan that we can all just coexist and tolerate evil from the Believers who would sacrifice anything else they have to follow Christ. “For what fellowship can light have with darkness?”(2 Cor 6:14- applies especially to marriage, the little world, but especially to the Church, the big Bride) and I see it also in terms of 1 John 1:7. Transparency, and walking in the light is necessary. Counterfeit light is no light at all. (Matt 6:23; Luke 11:35)
Thanks for visiting and for some well thought discussion!
